Component Overview

  • Small Office Protection

There are many components that come along with Avast Business Antivirus, both in the baseline Antivirus and in the Pro and Plus versions. Small Office Protection comes with many more components than Avast Business Antivirus for more operating systems, and is only available for unmanaged devices.

  • Ransomware Shield: wall off folders from ransomware attacks
  • Remote Access Shield: block unwanted remote connections
  • Wi-Fi Inspector: vulnerability scan for local network
  • Real Site: DNS hijack protection
  • Firewall: network traffic monitoring/blocking
  • Sandbox: run applications in virtualized isolated environment
    • CyberCapture (part of Sandbox): cloud analysis of suspicious files
  • Exchange: virus scanning for Exchange
  • Sharepoint: virus scanning for SharePoint
  • Webcam Shield: prevent unauthorized applications from accessing webcam
  • Sensitive Data Shield: protect files and folders with private information
  • SecureLine VPN: Avast VPN service
  • Data Shredder: irreversibly erase data
  • Passwords: store and sync passwords, encrypt sensitive information
  • Password Protection: store and sync passwords
  • Software Updater: apply small updates and patches
  • Browser Cleanup: scanning for poorly rated browser add-ons
  • Rescue Disk: scan system outside of Windows

Small Office Protection Only Components

  • Do Not Disturb Mode: silence notifications when any application is fullscreen
  • File Scanner: virus scanning for mobile devices
  • Photo Vault: password protect and encrypt photo access
  • Identity Protection: warn user of potential password leaks
  • App Lock: password protect sensitive apps
  • Anti-Theft: protect mobile data, help recover a lost device
    • Camera Trap (part of Anti-Theft): activate camera to secretly photograph a potential thief
    • Last Known Location (part of Anti-Theft): record device's last known location
    • SIM Security (part of Anti-Theft): lock device when SIM card is changed
  • Call Blocker: block all calls from phone numbers on Blacklist
  • Power Save: adjust settings to decrease battery consumption
  • Boost RAM: close apps running in the background
  • Clean Junk: safely free space on device
  • Wi-Fi Speed Test: check connected Wi-Fi network download/upload speed
  • Wi-Fi Security: check connected Wi-Fi network for security issues
  • App Insights: set data usage limit and alert when nearing limit
  • VPN Standalone App: Avast phone traffic VPN service

Enabling and Disabling Components

Many of the shields and tools available in Avast Business Antivirus and Small Office Protection can be enabled or disabled on the device. This is especially useful if you are trying to install only a few of the components on a server, or just keeping your number of tools to a minimum. Some tools, however, can only be installed or uninstalled entirely, such as Sandbox and Rescue Disk.

  1. Open the Avast Business Antivirus or Small Office Protection client UI
  2. Click on the proper tab for the component you are trying to enable or disable:
    • Protection: File Shield, Web Shield, Mail Shield, Behavior Shield, Sandbox, Wi-Fi Inspector, Real Site, Firewall
    • Privacy: Passwords, Data Shredder, Webcam Shield
    • Performance: Software Updater
  3. Click on the button for the component
  4. Beside the component you want to alter, do one of the following:
    • To enable the component, move the slider to On
    • To disable the component, move the slider to Off
  5. If required, confirm your choice

Installing and Uninstalling Components

Most Active Protection features are installed with Avast Business Antivirus and Small Office Protection, but these components can be uninstalled and reinstalled as needed via the Troubleshooting menu. MacOS X protection components cannot be installed or uninstalled but can be turned off.

  1. Open the Avast Business Antivirus or Small Office Protection client UI
  2. Navigate to Menu ▸ Settings ▸ General ▸ Troubleshooting
  3. Click Add/Modify Components
  4. Beside the components you want to alter, do one of the following:
    • If the component is not yet installed, check the box beside it
    • If the component is already installed, uncheck the box beside it
  5. Click Change to confirm once you are finished making your edits
