Password Manager (Avast Passwords)

This Article Applies to:

  • Avast Small Business Solutions

Also known as Avast Passwords, Password Manager is a password and data manager that allows you to securely store sensitive information in one place, and enables you to quickly fill in web forms and access your online accounts.

The Passwords service is in EoL (end-of-life) and may be uninstalled during Antivirus upgrade. We recommend saving/exporting all your passwords and switching to Password Protection instead.

This component is available for Windows workstations only.

Supported Browsers

Password Manager supports the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Avast Secure Browser

Enabling Password Manager

To enable Password Manager, navigate to Menu > Settings > Privacy > Password Manager, and tick the Show Avast Passwords checkbox.

Once enabled, the component will become visible and accessible in the main Privacy section of the UI.

Setting Up Password Manager

When first opening the Passwords component, you will need to select the Get started button.

To set up the feature, activate the plugin in your installed browsers.

Once the extension is activated where required, you will see the Password Manager's main screen, and you will be able to add logins, credit cards, and secure notes.

Logins can be captured during the browsing in the supported browsers with the plugin enabled. Otherwise, selecting Add Manually can be used to enter the website login information.

Saved logins will be displayed in the Logins section of Password Manager.

Accessing Sites

When accessing sites, the orange key icon will appear to allow you to enter/modify the account used.

From the toolbar/addin itself, you can select a login to insert, enable/disable auto-fill and auto-save, and generate a random password.

Advanced Settings

The advanced Password Manager settings can be accessed via the Settings link in the top right corner of the Passwords screen.

There are several sets of settings available:

  • Security
  • Browser integration
  • Sync & backup
  • Import/export data

Security

In this section of the settings you can enable a master password to protect your stored passwords/cards/notes.

You will need to enter the desired password twice and acknowledge that there is no possibility to reset or recover a forgotten master password.

Once you have saved your master password, the option to lock Password Manager will be added.

When locked, Password Manager will not display any information unless the master password is entered.

You can use the available auto-lock options to define whether Avast Passwords will be locked after closing the app, after a specified amount of time, and/or after closing your web browser.

Browser Integration

The installed browsers and the extensions added are listed here. You can select Add extension in the supported browsers, or Re-add extension for those where it's already active in case of issues.

Sync & Backup

In this section of the settings you can sync across devices if you have Password Manager for those, and backup the passwords.

An Avast ID account is required for this.

Import/Export Data

Here, you can import or export browser data to add/take from Password Manager.
