Avast Business Hub Release Notes 2023

This Article Applies to:

  • Avast Business Hub

Avast Business Hub and AVG Business Cloud Console run the same versions and release in the same cycle, usually every two weeks. Changes to the release cycle can be due to availability, planning, company shutdowns, etc.

For services offered inside the Hub such as Patch Management, Cloud Backup, USB Protection, and PRC, there is no specific release cycle. However, we attempt to release alongside the console releases (if there are some issues, hotfixes will be released outside of the usual two-week cycle). The same applies to the other backend services like DM, Alerts, etc.

This article provides information on the Business Hub 2023 releases and is updated throughout the year.

November 2023

Console Version 8.80 (November 29)

Release Summary

This release brings updates to the console registration process, enhancing the user experience and simplifying the procedure for accessing free product trials. Additionally, in our ongoing effort to streamline interactions with our platform, we are removing the option to mute alerts due to its infrequent use. Furthermore, the Web Control feature is consistently being improved.

New Features & Enhancements

  • The trial option for Essential and Premium Business Security has been removed, while keeping the trial option for Ultimate Business Security with all features.
  • To streamline the registration flow for the new Business Hub registration, we have removed the choice between single-tenant and multi-tenant consoles during initial setup. You can later switch to a multi-tenant console through the Company Profile section. Existing customers can also convert to a multi-tenant console anytime. The process for creating partner consoles (MSP) remains unchanged – partners must create their console directly from the Partner Portal.
  • During new console registrations, users now have the option to view and modify the data center location to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • The Web Control feature is now included in the device export list.
  • Visualization of the web traffic indicator from the Web Control PDF report now mirrors the Hub interface.
  • We removed the option to mute alerts due to low user adoption. All currently muted alerts are reactivated again.
  • Various minor improvements have been implemented.

Resolved Issues

  • Implemented numerous minor fixes to enhance overall system stability and performance.

Known Issues

  • Exclusions containing wildcards are currently not functioning correctly on macOS. We are actively working on resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Release Summary

Web Control now fully launched! We are thrilled to announce the full integration of Web Control into our Business Hub, available to all Premium and Ultimate Business Security subscribers. Your valuable feedback during this beta phase is essential in helping us enhance this feature for maximum effectiveness.

New Features & Enhancements

With these alerts, users can now access in-depth details about the suspicious activity, including specifics about the potential attacker's device. Configuration for these detections is in the Firewall policy settings, under the "Advanced" tab. By default, devices detected performing Port Scanning or ARP Spoofing will be automatically blocked. If you need to unblock a device, this can be done via the local client interface. Please note that unblocking is not available from the console.

Our new Web Control feature is still in beta and is available for our beta users. Stay tuned for more updates and improvements as we continue to fine-tune and prepare this new feature. Thank you for your continued support.

New Features & Enhancements

  • Added two new Data Shredder settings in Policies / Settings / Antivirus / Data Protection. The first setting is Windows Context Menu, which will enable/disable Data Shredder in the end-device context menu. The second is Priority for prioritization of shredding over other running applications to achieve faster data deletion.

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed a bug that prevented users from deleting custom app rules in the firewall settings.

This feature protects against fake websites even in browsers using DoH protocol for encrypted DNS, providing enhanced security for users on encrypted connections.
  • Windows users now have an option to exclude SATA optical drives from being blocked by USB Protection. This setting is located under Policies / Settings / USB Protection.

While no major features have been introduced in this update, the aim is to enhance the existing functionality and ensure a smoother and more reliable experience for all users.

  • Fixed bug causing inconsistent time stamps for the same detection entry between the console and exported reports to ensure consistent time stamps across the console and exported reports.
  • There was an issue in the CSV file for the Antivirus threat report. The report contained a wrong name for threat type Network, as it was named URL. Similarly, threat resolution Unresolved was named as None.
  • There was a bug where the context menu on a device displayed actions for services that were installed on the device, instead of showing the services that were activated for the company. With the bug fix implemented in this release, the context menu on a device now correctly displays actions for services that are activated for the company.
  • Fixed a scenario where the service expiration banner for Cloud Backup would appear briefly but then disappear immediately.
  • Previously, clicking on the View threat action in the alert detail redirected users to the Devices page with a filter for the File Access Blocked alert which was the wrong target. The action has been fixed to directly open the device detail page on the threats tab.
  • Previously, the View devices group alert action would open the device detail page instead of directing users to the devices page with the alert filter. Now, the action correctly leads users to the devices page with the alert filter applied.
  • A bug that occasionally prevented the activation of subscriptions using activation codes has been resolved. Users can now successfully activate their subscriptions without any issues, ensuring a smooth activation process.

June 2023

Console Version 8.70 (June 14)

Release Summary

Avast Business Hub users can now interact only with the features of subscribed services.

Non-licensed services are now hidden to avoid any potential confusion with unlicensed service settings. This improvement reduces the complexity of the console and makes it more intuitive.

Also, to keep administrators informed about service statuses after license expiration, we have introduced a service expiration banner. If some service has an expired license, the banner will be displayed at service-related locations. The banner provides the message: Service expired and unavailable. If not renewed within 30 days, all related settings will be removed. This alert helps ensure administrators are aware of expired services and the consequences of not renewing them.

New Features & Enhancements

  • The list of available languages in the settings will now be automatically translated into the local language, allowing users to easily recognize and select their preferred language.

Resolved Issues

  • Previously, there was an issue where the PDF report for service usage on the MSP level was not generated correctly, resulting in missing information. This issue has been resolved, and the PDF report now includes all the necessary information.
  • The service usage report was missing some services, such as VPN and USB Protection, causing incomplete information to be displayed. This issue has been fixed, and the service usage report now contains a list of all installed services.
  • In the CSV report, the New installation column was missing, leading to incomplete data. After the fix, the CSV report now includes all the required columns.
  • Fixed an issue where the Reinstall services option was incorrectly available for devices without any installed services. This issue has been resolved, ensuring a more streamlined and logical user experience by removing the option when it is not applicable.

Known Issues

  • Exclusions containing wildcards are currently not functioning correctly on macOS. We are actively working on resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
  • Managing Real Site component on macOS AV 15.5 is currently not supported. We are aware of this limitation and are working on providing a solution in a future release.
