Saving System Report and system.log Files on macOS

macOS 11.1 and 12

System Report

  1. Click the apple logo in the top-left corner
  2. Click About This Mac
  3. Click System Report
  4. Press COMMANDS
  5. Type the name for the report, choose where to save it, and click Save

system.log

  1. Open Finder
  2. Navigate to Applications UtilitiesConsole
  3. Click system.log, then click FileReveal in Finder in the top-left corner
  4. Select the system.log file and drag it to the desired folder

macOS 10.12-10.15

System Report

  1. Click the apple logo in the top-left corner
  2. Click About This Mac
  3. Click System Report
  4. Press COMMANDS
  5. Type the name for the report, choose where to save it, and click Save

system.log

  1. Open Finder
  2. Navigate to ApplicationsUtilitiesConsole
  3. Select the system.log file from the left frame and drag it to the desired folder

OS X 10.11

System Report

  1. Click the apple logo in the top-left corner
  2. Click About This Mac
  3. Click System Report
  4. In the menu bar, click Choose FileSave
  5. Type the name for the report, choose where to save it, and click Save

system.log

  1. Open Finder
  2. Navigate to Apps Utilities Console
  3. In the left part of the window, find the Files section
  4. Select the system.log file
  5. In the menu bar, click File Save a Copy As
  6. Type the name for the file, choose where to save it, and click Save

OS X 10.9 and 10.10

System Report

  1. Open Finder
  2. Navigate to Apps Utilities
  3. Double-click System Information
  4. In the menu bar, click File Save
  5. Type the name for the file, choose where to save it, and click Save

system.log

  1. Open Finder
  2. Navigate to Apps Utilities
  3. Double-click Console
  4. In the left part of the window, select system.log
  5. In the menu bar, click File Save a Copy As
  6. Type the name for the file, choose where to save it, and click Save
