VPN

This Article Applies to:

  • Avast Business Hub

Avast SecureLine VPN is a standalone application that allows you to connect to the internet via secure Avast VPN servers using an encrypted tunnel to protect your online activity from eavesdropping. Avast SecureLine VPN can be used any time you want to connect to the internet with extra security and privacy. This is especially recommended when you are connected to a public or unsecured Wi-Fi network.

Avast SecureLine VPN mainly offers:

  • Protection: When many people connect to the same public network, attackers can capture sensitive data, such as logins and passwords. The encrypted VPN connection provides efficient protection against these types of attacks.
  • Anonymization: With broadband connections, many people have fixed IP addresses that can be tracked when browsing sensitive sites. With a VPN connection, the browsing session is effectively anonymized - the IP address the remote server sees is the address of the VPN server, not the user.
  • Unrestricted access to the internet: When connected to a VPN server in another location, you gain access to content that may be restricted in your location. This allows you to browse freely, even from countries with web censorship.

This service does not have any configurable options within the Hub, it can only be installed or uninstalled. However, you can set a preferred disguised location via your end device's local client (see SecureLine VPN for more information).

Installing and Uninstalling

To add Avast SecureLine VPN to your devices, you need be subscribed to either Premium or Ultimate Business Security, as Essential Business Security doesn't offer this service.

To activate an additional subscription or upgrade to Premium or Ultimate Business Security, see Activating and Upgrading Subscriptions.

Once purchased, the subscription will show VPN available and the number of devices using the service. Clicking the device count link (available once you add the service to one or more devices) will bring you to the Devices page, filtered to show devices with VPN enabled.

The activated VPN service will become available for new installations as part of the Business Agent deployment.

For more information on new installations, see Adding Devices to Business Hub.

Download the package and execute the installer as usual - the Agent will install alone, and then install VPN afterward.

Inside the Business Hub, the VPN service can be seen on the Devices page through selecting the VPN column.

Once added, the column will display the VPN icon and toggle.

Existing devices can also add VPN post-installation using this toggle — click it so that it turns blue, then confirm the action by clicking Install in the pop-up dialog.

The service will be installed once the Agent syncs with the device.

To uninstall VPN from a device, click the toggle so that it turns gray, then confirm the action by clicking Uninstall in the pop-up dialog.

You can also bulk change the VPN service to off/on via the Manage Services option.

For more information on how to manage services for devices, see Managing Services.
