Configuring Component-Specific Exclusions

This Article Applies to:

  • AVG Business Cloud Console
  • AVG Business On-Premise Console

Many of the customizable components available in AVG Business Antivirus have a specific tab for exclusions that will only affect that particular component. If you would like to create exclusions for Antivirus as a whole, see Configuring Standard Antivirus Exclusions. The process of creating exclusions is similar for most Shields and components. See Wildcards for information on acceptable wildcard characters.

File Shield Exclusions

Any exclusions specified here will not be scanned by File Shield during a device scan. This can be used to speed up your scan for locations you know are safe or to prevent false positives.

  1. Click the policy you would like to change
  2. Select the OS you are adding the exclusion for
  3. Beside File Shield on the Active protection tab, click Customize
  4. Click the Exclusions tab
  5. In the Enter path box, type the file path you would like to exclude
  6. Use the check boxes to specify when the exclusion applies — when the file is Read, Written, or Executed
  7. Click Add
  8. Click Apply changes when you are done adding exclusions

Web Shield Exclusions

Any exclusions specified here will not be scanned by Web Shield when devices are accessing the internet. This can be used to prevent false positives. Note that if you want to block specific URLs, you must enter these on the Site Blocking tab.

  1. Click the policy you would like to change
  2. Select the OS you are adding the exclusion for
  3. Beside Web Shield on the Active protection tab, click Customize
  4. Click the Exclusions tab
  5. Do one of the following based on the type of exclusion you would like to create:
    • For URLs, type the URL you would like to exclude in the URL address box
    • For MIME-types, type the MIME-type you would like to exclude in the MIME-type box
    • For processes, type the process path in the Path to process box
      • Process paths do not accept wildcard characters
  6. Click Add
  7. Click Apply changes when you are done adding exclusions

Behavior Shield Exclusions

Any exclusions specified here will not be scanned by Behavior Shield when devices are running programs and processes. Network share is supported as long as you are using the absolute path to the folder/file.

Behavior Shield does not support wildcards within the file path (for example, C:\users\*\application.exe). You can still use a wildcard at the end of the file path, such as C:\users\username\*.

  1. Click the policy you would like to change
  2. Select the OS you are adding the exclusion for
  3. Beside Behavior Shield on the Active protection tab, click Customize
  4. In the Exclusions section, type the location you would like to exclude in the Enter locations to be excluded from scanning box
  5. Click Add
  6. Click Apply changes when you are done adding exclusions
